Dr. Shawn Khan

Shawn J. Khan, MD, MBA has joined the medical staff at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. He is the founder of the state of the art Central Texas Eye Institute located at 604 Highway 290 West, Suite 202 in the new Trinity Professional Center on the hospital campus (www.centraltexaseyeinstitute.com, 979-836-2SEE). Dr. Khan welcomes new patients and will be providing routine eye examinations, glaucoma screening, diabetic eye examinations as well as cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and laser surgery.

Dr. Khan is a board-certified ophthalmologist and has been performing eye surgery since 1997. He has received many awards and honors and is recognized as a national and international expert in the field of ophthalmology. In 2007, he was honored as one of “America’s Top Ophthalmologists.”

An experienced cataract and glaucoma surgeon, Dr. Khan completed a glaucoma fellowship at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA . The fellowship provided him with state of the art techniques and skills for the medical and surgical management of patients with glaucoma including laser surgery, incisional surgery and cataract extraction in patients with and without glaucoma.

Dr. Khan is a member of the American Glaucoma Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Texas Ophthalmological Society and many other ophthalmology-related groups.

He spent over two years as a full time faculty member at the University of Michigan’s prestigious W.K. Kellogg Eye Center where he performed glaucoma and cataract surgery, instructed residents and fellows on surgical techniques, and performed scientific research in the area of glaucoma diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Khan and his wife, Lisa, live in Brenham and have two daughters, Sierra and Santana. He comes to Brenham after spending three years in private practice in South Florida. He has authored numerous ophthalmic publications, been involved in several ophthalmic clinical trials and has lectured extensively on glaucoma both nationally and internationally. He is board certified in ophthalmology by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

He has been a scientific manuscript reviewer for both the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Clinical Therapeutics and has been invited to lecture and give instructional courses on a host of ophthalmology-related topics in several countries including the Pan American Congress of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmological Society of the West Indies and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
